Consultant’s report Welcome to HSIE in 2001.
HSIE district support is now available from Norma Galea HSIE Consultant
Blacktown and Parramatta Districts and Julie O’Keeffe Relieving HSIE
Consultant Penrith and Mt Druitt Districts. The focus of this year is
Assessment in HSIE and day workshops are being delivered throughout the
Districts emphasising the relationship between outcomes and assessment,
using work samples to identify indicators, and developing an understanding of the teaching and learning
cycle. As this is the last year
of Consultancy support in HSIE, a number of courses will be offered
addressing critical issues including multi staging in HSIE, writing Scope
and Sequences with an outcomes focus, inclusion of significant
cultural groups into classroom practice, and literacy demands in HSIE

Together-A multistage unit for K-6 HSIE This unit provides opportunities for students to explore the cultural
diversity of communities within Australia and the world through the study
of celebrations. The approach to developing Celebrating
Together has been to focus on the outcomes and
relevant subject matter within one focus strand-Cultures. This resource is
the first in a series of resources being developed by teachers for
situations where multiage classes include more than one stage of learning. Two New HSIE Resources Coming Into Your School
this Term By Word of Mouth: Conducting Oral Histories Stage 3 By Word of Mouth has been developed to encourage and help teachers use popular oral
history as a learning tool. This package contains a video and a resource
book for teachers and students. Talking Identity: A Unit of Work for Stage 2 Talking Identity is the first of the Aboriginal Australia series. This is a unit of
work about identity primarily from an Aboriginal perspective. Two
accompanying texts Rak Niwili and The Fat and Juicy Place
will also be included in the kit. The unit consists of ten topics each containing
a teaching program, student work sheets and teacher overheads. See Page 4 to learn
how to edit or replace this picture. The styles available in
this template allow you to change the look of your headlines and other
text. The following is a list of some common styles and their uses. Body Text - Use this style
for the regular text of an article. Byline - Use this style for the name
of the author of an article. Byline Company - Use this style to
type the author’s company. Sidebar
Head - Use this style to type a second-level
heading in a sidebar article. Sidebar
Subhead - Use this style to type a third-level
heading in a sidebar article. Sidebar Text - Use this
style to type the text in a sidebar article. Sidebar
Title - Use this style to type first-level headings
in a sidebar article. Footer - Use this style to
type the repeating text at the very bottom of each page. Heading1 - Use this style
to create headlines for each article. Heading2 - Use this style
to create section headings in an article. Jump To and Jump From - Use
these styles to indicate that an article continues on another page. Mailing Address - Use this
style in a mailing label to type the destination address. Postage - Use this style in a mailing label to type postage information. Return Address - Use this
style in a mailing label to type your address. Picture Caption - Use this
style to type a description of a picture or illustration. Subtitle - Use this style
to type sub-headings in an article. Use PullQuote to excerpt
text from the main text of a story to draw a reader’s attention to the
page. See page 4 for an example.
